Greetings! My name is Sheanda Cort, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I have been shaped by the rich culture and diverse communities that define our land. With a unique mix of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and European influences, Guyana is a place where flavors and traditions come together—whether it's savoring a plate of pepperpot during festive celebrations or sharing stories by the banks of the mighty Essequibo River.
As a resident of the NOC Compound, I often find joy in the small things that make our community special, like the serene beauty of the River Bamboo Settlement and the lively gatherings that reflect our resilience and spirit. While it’s true that Guyana faces its challenges—like the concerning rates of mental health issues—my focus remains on the warmth of our people and the potential for growth. I believe that sharing our experiences, both positive and negative, is crucial for understanding and uplifting one another within the diaspora.
