Hello! My name is Shelliza Mohamed, and I proudly call the vibrant community of Essequibo, specifically the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my home. Growing up in the lush landscapes near the Pom River, I've developed a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that defines our area—from the iconic rivers that nourish our land to the warm-hearted people who bring it to life. As a resident of Parika East Bank, I've witnessed the beauty of our diverse traditions, from the lively celebrations of Mashramani to the flavors of our local dishes, including the well-loved cook-up rice and spicy pepperpot.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora means carrying a piece of home with me wherever I go. I cherish the stories of my ancestors and the history of our settlements, like the famed Katowro and Acquero Island.
