Hello! My name is Shemroy Cummings, and I proudly call the beautiful West Coast Demerara my home, specifically the vibrant Sera Lodge Housing area. Growing up in this rich cultural landscape, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the lush Essequibo Islands and the diverse communities that make up our beloved Guyana. Our country, known for its warm, welcoming spirit, offers a mix of traditions that span from the culinary delights of pepperpot and roti to the rhythmic sounds of calypso and soca that fill the air during celebrations.
As a resident of this enchanting region, I find joy in the simplicity and beauty of daily life here, whether it’s enjoying the serene views along the Pomeroon River or sharing stories with friends over a hearty meal. I also cherish the connection with our diaspora, as many of my friends and family have ventured abroad, bringing with them a piece of our culture, language, and cuisine. Their experiences inspire me to share my own journey and to keep our Guyanese heritage alive, no matter where life takes us.
Through my work and community involvement, I aim to highlight the gems of our land—from the lush greenery of the Lower Pom River to the vibrant energy of Grant St. Vincent.
