Greetings! I’m Shereen Bacchus, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically Better Hope in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up in this vibrant part of Guyana has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich culture and the warm spirit of our people. From the lush landscapes to the lively markets, where you can find everything from fresh fish to the sweetest cassava pone, my roots here are intertwined with the essence of daily life. I cherish every moment spent exploring the natural beauty of our rivers and savannahs or indulging in the delicious flavors of our local dishes such as pepperpot and rotis.
Having lived here all my life, I have witnessed both the challenges and the incredible potential of our country. Guyana is a land of resilience, where our people are continuously striving for better opportunities and a brighter future. Although many have sought fortunes abroad, the connections we share within the diaspora remind us of who we are and where we come from. I often reflect on the stories of those who have left, like my friends who’ve settled in far-off places, yet still hold onto their Guyanese heritage.
I am committed to being a voice for change and uplifting my community. I believe in the power of education and cooperation among our people to overcome the systemic issues we face. In my everyday interactions, I strive to promote respect and understanding, encouraging others to work together towards a better tomorrow. As we say, "We are all in this together," and it’s through unity that we can truly make a difference for current and future generations of Guyanese.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
