About SHERRAN SANDRA CAMACHO

About Sherran Camacho

Greetings from the beautiful Essequibo Coast! My name is Sherran Camacho, and I proudly call 38 Cave Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up in this vibrant region of Guyana, I have been deeply influenced by our rich cultural heritage, from the lush landscapes to the tantalizing flavors of our traditional cuisine. As someone who cherishes the warmth of community and the joy of sharing our stories, I love engaging with both locals and those from our diaspora who carry a piece of Guyana in their hearts, no matter where they are in the world.

My experiences have taught me that our food is not just sustenance but a celebration of our identity. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or the simple pleasure of sharing a meal of cook-up rice with family, the flavors of Guyanese cuisine resonate deeply within me. I find joy in connecting with others over our shared love for dishes that tell our stories, like the ever-popular bakes and salt fish. As a proud Guyanese, I often reminisce about the laughter shared over meals, reminiscent of the comments I’ve seen—like how we can’t help but debate whether Guyanese food reigns supreme!

Through my work and personal endeavors, I aim to promote the beauty and richness of Guyanese culture, whether it's through discussions on our local landmarks or the vibrant traditions that make us who we are. I believe in the power of sharing our culture, just as many from the diaspora have expressed their appreciation for the warmth and vibrancy of Guyana. Together, we can continue to celebrate our heritage, connect with one another, and uplift our community, both at home and abroad. Let’s keep the spirit of Guyana alive, wherever we may roam!
