Hello! I’m Sherwin Hilliman, a construction worker based in Demerara, on the vibrant Murphy Street. My roots run deep in the diverse and colorful culture of Guyana, a country known for its lush landscapes and rich heritage. Growing up here, I’ve learned to appreciate the warmth of our communities, the rhythm of our music, and most importantly, the flavors of our cuisine. From savory pepperpot to the sweet delights of guava cheese, our food is a testament to our culture and hospitality.

Living in Guyana, I have witnessed first-hand the challenges we face, but also the resilience of my fellow Guyanese. Despite the struggles, our spirit remains unyielded, and we take pride in our contributions both at home and abroad. Many of us have migrated to places like the USA, forming a strong diaspora that keeps our traditions alive while adapting to new cultures. I often reflect on the camaraderie we share, whether it’s through virtual chats or gatherings whenever we visit each other’s homes.

I’m passionate about building not just structures, but also connections—both within our local communities and with those who have ventured beyond our borders. Whenever I can, I encourage my friends and family to explore the beautiful landmarks of our nation, from the iconic Kaieteur Falls to the historical sites in Georgetown.
