Welcome to my corner of the world! My name is Shreewattie Upeacehan, and I proudly call the vibrant community of Regina Essequibo Coast home, situated along the picturesque Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up here, I’ve been deeply influenced by the rich Black culture that thrives in Guyana, from the savory aromas of cook-up rice and pepperpot that waft through our neighborhoods to the rhythmic beats of our traditional music during celebrations like Mashramani. These experiences have instilled in me a profound appreciation for our cultural heritage.
Living in a region full of stunning landscapes—including the lush mangroves and the mighty Essequibo River—has shaped my connection to both nature and my community. I believe that it’s essential to cherish and promote our local traditions, whether it’s through organizing community events or engaging with friends and family over a delicious plate of fried fish. My heart beats in rhythm with the vibrant life around me, and I envision a future where we can further embrace our cultural identity while working together for a cleaner, more beautiful environment.
