Hello! I’m Shunel Semple, a proud Ann from the vibrant region of Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My heart beats for the lush landscapes of our homeland, where the Essequibo River flows and the sounds of the rainforest are a daily symphony. Growing up surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples, Afro-Guyanese, and East Indian communities, I’ve learned to appreciate the unique blend of traditions that make our nation so special—especially when it comes to our beloved food! Whether it's savoring a plate of curry duck or indulging in a sweet slice of black cake, Guyanese cuisine is a joy I carry with me wherever I go.
Having recently discovered the global Guyanese diaspora, I find immense pride in our shared connections. It's heartwarming to see the excitement when someone discovers Guyana for the first time, like when they find us featured on a show like Geography Now. There’s something truly special about the emotion we feel when we wave our flag—🇬🇾—and celebrate our heritage, no matter where we are in the world. From the bustling markets of Georgetown to the serene shores of the Pomeroon, every inch of Guyana is ingrained in my identity.
As I continue to grow both personally and professionally, I carry the spirit of my homeland with me. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
