About SOOKDEO NARINE

About Sookdeo Narine

Hello! My name is Sookdeo Narine, and I proudly call the serene Bank Essequibo Railway Embankment in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated labourer, I take pride in contributing to the vibrant community around me, where the lush landscapes are complemented by the warm smiles of my neighbors. The Pomeroon River, with its gentle flow, serves not just as a landmark but as a reminder of our strong connection to nature and our heritage. From the sweet aroma of freshly cooked cook-up rice to the rich flavors of pepperpot, the food we share reflects the heart and soul of our Guyanese culture.

Growing up surrounded by the rich history of our land, I cherish the stories of resilience and unity that define us, especially the narratives that echo through the generations. While the struggles of our past, such as the history of slavery and the impact of mercury poisoning, are part of our collective memory, there is also a spirit of kindness and openness that I believe shapes our community today. Every day, I see this in the way families come together, share meals, and support one another. It’s this sense of togetherness that I aim to foster in my work and daily interactions.

As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I stay connected to my roots through community events and social gatherings. Whether it’s a lively celebration during Mashramani or a simple family gathering at the riverbank, these moments remind me that no matter where we are, our culture and heritage remain strong. I look forward to sharing more of my journey and connecting with fellow Guyanese near and far.
