Hello! My name is Steve De Agrella, and I proudly call Pomeroon in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant communities of this beautiful country, I have a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. From enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot during Christmas to gathering with friends for a lively cook-up by the river, I cherish the flavors and traditions that connect us all.
As a resident of Guyana, I deeply feel the pulse of our diverse society, with Indian, African, Amerindian, and European influences shaping our unique identity. I often reflect on the surprising fact that Hinduism is practiced by a quarter of our population—showing just how beautifully intertwined our cultures are. I love sharing stories about our local vendors, the bustling markets, and the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls, reminding me of the warmth of my fellow Guyanese and the bonds we share, even within the diaspora.
Though we face challenges, from territorial disputes with neighboring countries to the quest for greater recognition on the world stage, I remain hopeful for our future. I am passionate about building connections with both locals and fellow Guyanese abroad, as we navigate our journeys together.
