About SUMATTIE ROOKMIN

About Sumattie Rookmin

Greetings! My name is Sumattie Rookmin, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled between the lush greenery and the flowing rivers, I live on Church Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam, a vibrant region known for its rich cultural heritage and strong community ties. There’s nothing quite like the aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air on a Sunday afternoon, or the lively chatter of neighbors gathered for a game of cricket or a festive celebration.

As a resident of Guyana, I cherish our diverse cultural landscape, which is influenced by our Indigenous, African, Indian, and European roots. I take pride in sharing our unique culinary delights, from pepperpot to roti, and reminisce about family gatherings that bring everyone together around a table filled with flavorful dishes. The Essequibo River, one of our region's most treasured landmarks, serves as a backdrop to countless memories, whether it’s a relaxing fishing trip or a festive boat ride during Mashramani.

With a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of our cultural exchange and how it enriches our lives, both at home and abroad. I am always eager to engage with others who share a love for our homeland, whether discussing the historical significance of CARICOM or simply reminiscing about the beauty of our landscapes. Let's celebrate our heritage together!
