Greetings! My name is Susana Crepaul, and I proudly call Essequibo St. Lawrence on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Nestled in the rich, tropical landscape of Guyana, I draw inspiration from our vibrant culture and history. As a proud resident of the "Garden City of the Caribbean," I cherish the lush greenery, the sounds of the Pomeroon River, and the warmth of our community. Guyana’s unique blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and European influences shapes our daily lives, and I embrace these traditions wholeheartedly, whether it’s through our delicious culinary delights like pepperpot and roti or our festive celebrations, such as Mashramani.
Having grown up in a country that has often been overlooked by the rest of South America, I take great pride in my identity as a Caribbean person. While many may not know about Guyana, those of us who call it home understand the strength of our diaspora connections across the Anglophone Caribbean. We may be separated by dense tropical bush from our South American neighbors, but our culture, history, and resilience unite us in ways that are truly special. I believe it's vital to highlight the stories of regular people who embody the spirit of our nation, rather than just the typical narratives that often overlook our rich heritage.
