Greetings! I’m Susie Charles, a proud resident of the vibrant community along the Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Living here, you can often find me soaking in the natural beauty of our unique lakes that glisten like Coca-Cola under the sun, framed by the iconic cypress trees. With the lush landscapes as my backdrop, I take immense pride in my Guyanese heritage and love sharing our rich culture, especially through our delicious culinary delights like pepperpot and metemgee, which remind me of home.
Despite the challenges many of us face, including economic struggles that have led many to seek opportunities elsewhere, the resilience and spirit of our people shine bright. I stay connected with the diaspora community, sharing stories and experiences that reflect our journey. It’s uplifting to see how friendships formed over our shared Guyanese roots, like my Spanish teacher and her connection with my family, create a sense of belonging, no matter where we are in the world.
