Hello! I’m Suzanna Paapaya, a passionate teacher based in Bank Essequibo, 682 South New Housing, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in the vibrant heart of Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, where the sounds of steel pan and the aroma of a warm bowl of pepperpot fill the air. My journey as an educator is fueled by the belief that every child deserves a chance to thrive, and I strive to inspire my students to embrace their heritage while aiming for a bright future.
As someone who has witnessed the beauty of our forests and the challenges they face, I share my concern for the environment, echoing sentiments from our community about the importance of preserving our natural resources. I understand the fears surrounding our oil exploration and how it may affect the everyday lives of Guyanese, especially the youth. Through my work, I aim to empower the next generation with knowledge about sustainability, ensuring they can shape a future that benefits all, not just the elite.
With a diverse background that includes influences from our Indian, African, and Indigenous roots, I take pride in fostering a classroom that reflects our multicultural society. I encourage my students to celebrate their unique identities, just as I cherish my Indian ancestry.
