Hello! My name is Teshenia Rigby, and I’m proud to call Bank Essequibo Farm on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Living in this vibrant community, I am continually inspired by the rich and diverse cultures that make up our beautiful Guyana. From the lush greenery of our landscapes to the warmth of our people, every day here is a celebration of life, infused with the flavors of our local cuisine, like pepperpot and roti, and the rhythms of our folk music.
As a resident in this part of Guyana, I cherish the connections we have with our heritage. I often reminisce about family gatherings where we share stories, laughter, and dishes that remind us of our roots. Did you know that the name "Guyana" itself comes from our Indigenous Amerindian culture? It truly reflects our unique identity, which is a blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and Portuguese influences. I also feel a strong connection to the diaspora, where we proudly share our experiences and celebrate our culture, whether it’s through a chat about Rihanna being my cousin or discussing the realities of life back home.
In my daily life, I strive to embody the spirit of resilience and pride that characterizes the Guyanese people. Each interaction is a reminder of our shared experiences, whether it’s through the struggles we face or the joy we find in the little things, like a good meal or the beauty of our natural surroundings. I look forward to continuing to engage with my community and contributing to our shared narrative, reminding ourselves that despite the challenges, we are all connected by the same heart and spirit.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
