Welcome to my corner of the Essequibo Coast! I’m Thabendra Jadoo, a proud resident of Johanna Cecilia in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our local culture, from the tantalizing flavors of pepperpot and cook-up rice to the rhythmic sounds of chutney music that fill our streets. Whether I’m enjoying a homemade meal crafted by the wonderful older ladies in our community or taking in the beauty of the nearby rivers and forests, I always find joy in the small things that make our country special.
As someone who has witnessed the rapid development spurred by our newfound oil resources, I understand both the challenges and opportunities we face. While some may criticize the driving habits or the noise of minibus taxis, I believe these quirks are part of the unique character of our country. We’re a nation in transition, and I’m excited to see how we can blend our rich traditions with modern advancements. I often connect with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, sharing stories and experiences that remind us of home, whether in the bustling markets of New York or the serene shores of the Essequibo.
