Hello! My name is Ebenezer Thom, and I’m proud to call Baramita in the Barima-Waini region my home. As a miner, I spend my days working hard to uncover the natural treasures of this beautiful land, surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant rivers that Guyana is famous for. Whether I’m at the Pomeroon River or exploring the wonders of the Akawini area, there’s always a new adventure waiting around the bend.
At home, we speak Creolese, which keeps our rich culture alive and thriving. When I greet my friends and family with “How yuh doin?” I cherish the warmth of our community and the bond we share. Food plays a big part in our lives, too. I love to indulge in local delicacies like egg balls and stew, which remind me of gatherings filled with laughter and love. There’s nothing quite like sharing a meal with good company!
As someone deeply connected to my roots, I take pride in being a part of the Guyanese diaspora. We may be scattered around the world, but the spirit of our homeland lives on in our hearts. Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
