Hello! My name is Timothy Williams, and I’m proud to call St. Monica in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always appreciated the diversity that our nation exemplifies. We may have our disagreements—like the ongoing talks about our neighbors in Venezuela—but it’s our shared experiences, from the bustling markets to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, that truly unite us. I often find myself reminiscing about the lively discussions we have about our history, including pivotal moments like the World Court’s resolution over Essequibo, which solidified our identity.
Though I may be grounded in my community, I also recognize the strength of the Guyanese diaspora. Connecting with fellow Guyanese abroad, whether through social media or in person, keeps the spirit of home alive. It’s in our shared laughter, our stories, and yes, even our debates over the proper way to pronounce names of places, that we find a sense of belonging, no matter where we are in the world.
