Greetings! I’m Tinesh Rambarran, a proud fisherman hailing from the beautiful Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up alongside the lush rivers and rich waters of Guyana, my life has always been intertwined with the bountiful gifts of the sea. Fishing isn’t just a job for me; it’s a way of life that connects me deeply to my roots and the vibrant culture that defines our nation. My work allows me to appreciate the diversity of our local cuisine, especially the fragrant rice and spices that are staples in our homes. While I respect the culinary heritage of our Caribbean neighbors, there’s truly nothing like a plate of freshly cooked fish accompanied by a hearty serving of Guyanese rice, seasoned just right. It’s these flavors, along with the warmth of my community, that keep me grounded and proud of my cultural heritage, even as I navigate the challenges we face today.
Living on the Essequibo Coast, I am also aware of the socio-economic changes our country is undergoing, especially with the newfound oil wealth. While we celebrate our progress, I often reflect on the stories of my friends and family back home and in the diaspora, who share their hopes for a better future. Together, we strive not just for prosperity, but for the preservation of our Guyanese identity—a blend of resilience, warmth, and the undeniable spirit of togetherness that makes our homeland truly special.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
