Greetings! My name is Troy Gittens, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home, specifically the Richmond Housing area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the rhythmic sounds of kalypso music to the tantalizing flavors of our traditional dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice. The Pomeroon River, with its serene beauty, has always been a source of inspiration and tranquility for me, reminiscent of my childhood explorations in places like Lower Pomeroon River Woodland Settlement and Mora Landing.
As a resident of this beautiful region, I cherish the close-knit community and the vibrant spirit of my fellow Guyanese. Whether it's gathering at local festivities or sharing stories over a warm plate of metemgee, the bonds we create are vital to our identity. I often feel the heartbeat of our diaspora community, where even those miles away from home, like my friends in St. Monica and Karawab, carry a piece of Guyana within them.
