From the lush greenery along the Pomeroon River to the bustling streets filled with the smell of curry and fresh bake, Guyana is not just my home; it’s a part of who I am. I cherish our unique blend of Creole, Indo-Guyanese, and Afro-Guyanese traditions, which come alive in our festivals and everyday life.
Though we may not be geographically part of the Caribbean, our connection to the region is undeniable. Whether it’s sharing a plate of pepperpot during Christmas or enjoying the rhythmic beats of a traditional tassa drum at a local celebration, our culture thrives in every gathering. No matter where life takes us, the warmth of Guyanese hospitality and the taste of our beloved dishes like roti and cook-up rice keep the diaspora community close at heart. As we move forward, I believe that together, we can uplift our homeland and embrace our identity with pride.
