Greetings! My name is Valentine Gonsalves, and I proudly call Upper Pom River Dredge Creek Upper my home. As a farmer, I have deep roots in the rich soil of Guyana, where the vibrant green landscapes meet the winding rivers. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I have always cherished the beauty of our natural resources and the simple joys of life, from harvesting fresh crops to enjoying a hearty plate of roti and curry with family and friends.
Living in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region has shaped my perspective on what it means to be Guyanese. I believe that despite the challenges we face, such as the struggles with infrastructure and the need for a better mentality within our communities, we have the potential to cultivate a brighter future. I often reflect on the experiences of our diaspora—those who left for places like the U.S. and share their memories of home, sometimes with a mix of nostalgia and humor. This connection keeps us rooted, reminding us of our shared identity, whether we are here in Guyana or thousands of miles away.
Through my work as a farmer, I aim to contribute to the community and inspire the next generation to appreciate our land and heritage. I hope to see our country evolve, with a focus on unity and progress, as we navigate through our unique challenges. After all, every bit of growth—both in the fields and in our hearts—brings us closer to the promise of a better tomorrow.
