Hello! My name is Georgina Gonsalves, and I am proud to call River Grant Good Fortune in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated teacher, I am passionate about shaping the minds of our future generations, instilling in them the values and rich heritage that make Guyana unique. Growing up in this vibrant community, I have always been inspired by our diverse cultural landscape, from the delicious pepperpot and curry dishes that warm our family gatherings to the lively celebrations of Mashramani that bring us all together.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora, I often reflect on the connections that tie us to those living abroad, whether it’s our relatives in Brooklyn or the many who have built beautiful homes back in Guyana after years overseas. I cherish the stories shared from diaspora members about their experiences, and it makes me proud to see how our home is evolving, even as we acknowledge the challenges we face, like the need for better infrastructure. Our country is a mosaic of ethnic groups, each contributing to the rich cultural heritage we celebrate.
I believe that education is the key to our progress, and it’s my mission to foster a love for learning in my students while honoring the traditions we hold dear. Whether it’s sharing the history of our indigenous people or exploring the vibrant festivals that highlight our mixed heritage, I strive to make every lesson a reflection of our beautiful Guyana.
