Greetings! My name is Venita Henry, a proud resident of East Bank Essequibo, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana has gifted me with a rich cultural heritage that I cherish deeply. Whether it’s the tantalizing aroma of a well-cooked plate of pepperpot or the sweet taste of a freshly made coconut tart, the flavors of my homeland are a constant reminder of our vibrant traditions. I often reminisce about gatherings with family and friends where we share stories that echo through generations, often infused with laughter and the delightful smell of dame rag simmering on the stove.

As a person deeply connected to my roots, I understand the complexities and beauty of our community. Guyana, despite its challenges, is filled with warm-hearted individuals who create a sense of belonging. We are a small nation, with a population under a million, yet our spirit is immense! This connection is what I seek to strengthen in my daily life, whether through supporting local initiatives or simply sharing a smile with a neighbor. Each interaction carries the hope of change and improvement for our beautiful country.

While our landscapes may be adorned with the incredible Kaieteur Falls and the serene Essequibo River, it’s the communal bonds that truly define us. I often find myself reminiscing about my roots when I interact with the Guyanese diaspora, who carry a piece of our culture abroad. Our shared experiences, from Bollywood references to a love for traditional dances, keep our heritage alive no matter where we are.
