Hello! I am Vibert Callender, a carpenter based in the beautiful East Bank Essequibo North Seawall Reserve, right in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. With a strong connection to my roots, I draw inspiration from the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana. Whether I’m crafting furniture or building homes, I put my heart into every piece, as I believe that good craftsmanship reflects the spirit of our community.
Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I have always appreciated the importance of our local produce, from fresh fruits like pommerac and cashew to the delicious fish caught right from our waters. The flavors of our traditional dishes, such as pepperpot and cook-up rice, remind me of family gatherings and the warmth of sharing meals with loved ones. I actively engage with the Guyanese diaspora, exchanging stories and experiences, keeping the essence of our culture alive wherever we are.
In my work, I strive to blend traditional techniques with modern designs, honoring the skilled artisans who came before me.
