Greetings! My name is Vishwanaut Persaud, and I am proud to call River Northern Hog Island my home. Located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I have deep roots in the vibrant culture and agricultural traditions of Guyana. As a farmer, I cultivate the rich land that provides not only for my family but also for our community. The Pomeroon River is a lifeline for us, connecting our families and allowing us to share the bounty of our harvests, from fresh fruits to the beloved cassava and rice that form the foundation of our meals.
Growing up in this lush area, I spent many days exploring local landmarks, like St. Monica and the scenic banks of the Pomeroon River. Each place tells a story, a piece of our history that connects us to our heritage. I cherish the moments spent with friends and family, sharing meals infused with our unique flavors, such as pepperpot and green mango chutney, which remind us of who we are as Guyanese. Our cultural traditions run deep, and I am proud to pass them on to the next generation.
Though many of my friends and family have ventured abroad, the bonds we share remain strong, as we support one another from afar. Whether it’s reminiscing about the days playing on the riverbanks or celebrating weddings with lively music and dance, we are always connected. I look forward to embracing the future while honoring the past, carrying the spirit of our beloved Guyana wherever I go.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
