Hello! I’m Wanda Raphael, a proud resident of Pomeroon in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of beautiful Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush rainforests and winding rivers, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty that our homeland offers. The rich biodiversity and vibrant landscapes, like those found around River Parpi Settlement and River Coporoto Island, have shaped my love for our environment and its preservation.
In our community, food is an essential part of life. I enjoy sharing traditional Guyanese dishes, especially pepperpot and roti, with friends and family. Each meal is an opportunity to celebrate our diverse heritage, from the African and East Indian influences to the contributions of the Portuguese and Chinese. Just like many in our diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our roots, even when living abroad. It’s important to remember where we come from and to uphold the values that have been passed down through generations.
Despite the challenges we face, including conversations about how our newfound oil wealth should uplift our nation, I remain optimistic. I believe that with unity and a commitment to transparency, we can elevate Guyana to new heights.
