About YAYWATTIE GANGARAM

Welcome to My World

Hi there! I'm Yaywattie Gangaram, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically on the 8 Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Living here, I am surrounded by the vibrant essence of Guyanese culture, where the sweet aroma of pepperpot and the enticing flavors of curry fill our homes. From the lush landscapes of the Essequibo River to the lively markets in my community, every day offers a glimpse into our rich heritage. We may not speak Spanish like many of our Latin American neighbors, but our diverse blend of Indian, African, and Amerindian cultures makes us unique in the Caribbean and South America.

As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our fellow Guyanese around the globe. Whether it's through sharing traditional recipes or recounting tales of our ancestors, we hold on to the essence of what it means to be Guyanese. I often hear comments from both locals and those abroad about our culture, like how we enjoy marrying Caribbean influences while staying true to our roots. It brings a smile to my face when I see people embracing our traditions, even if they find certain dishes hard to swallow!

Living along the Essequibo Coast, I'm also reminded of the importance of our land and resources. As we navigate challenges, including economic disparities, I remain hopeful that our community will rise together. From exploring landmarks like Fort Island to enjoying a good old-fashioned lime along the river, I invite you to experience the heart of Guyana through my eyes. Join me in celebrating our culture and creating a brighter future for generations to come!
