Hello! My name is Yvette Caravio, and I proudly call Pom River Grant Endeavour Lower in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a housewife, I cherish the vibrant culture of our land, where the lush greenery meets the flowing waters of the Pomeroon River. My days are often filled with the delightful aromas of cooking traditional dishes, like pepperpot and cook-up rice, which bring family and friends together around the table. There’s nothing quite like sharing a meal featuring fresh cassava or plantains with loved ones while sharing stories of our rich heritage.
Growing up in a country with such a diverse tapestry of cultures—whether it’s the sounds of chutney music filling the air or the sights of colorful festivals showcasing our Indian, African, Amerindian, and European influences—has shaped who I am. I often reminisce about visiting the majestic Mount Roraima, or simply enjoying a peaceful day by the river with my family. These experiences instill in me a deep appreciation for our land and the warmth of our people, who are known for their friendliness and hospitality.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I value the connections we maintain with family and friends both near and far, sharing stories of our beloved country. Whether through social media or phone calls, there’s always a sense of pride when I discuss our natural beauty and cultural richness with those abroad.
