Greetings! My name is Zavine Basmattie, and I am an engineer based in the beautiful Pomeroon region of Guyana. Growing up in the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I have always felt a deep connection to our rich culture and traditions. From the exquisite flavors of pepperpot at family gatherings to the gentle sounds of the Pomeroon River, every experience has shaped my passion for not only my career but also for my roots. As we say back home, “A true Guyanese never forgets where they come from!”
Having spent time in both Guyana and the diaspora, I recognize the unique challenges and opportunities that come with living away from home. Many of us share fond memories of reunions sparked by our shared heritage, like when my Spanish teacher and my mom discovered they were both Guyanese and instantly became friends. It’s this sense of camaraderie and mutual respect that fuels my work and community involvement. I strive to bridge connections, whether it’s through engineering projects or simply gathering friends around a plate of cook-up rice and fresh fish.
