Greetings! My name is Zelita Thornhill, and I proudly call Pom River Mora Settlement in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Living here, nestled between the lush greenery and the meandering rivers, has provided me with a deep appreciation for our rich natural heritage and the vibrant community that surrounds me. With a background in local agriculture, I am passionate about sustainable farming practices that honor our traditions while embracing modern techniques. Nothing brings our community together quite like a cook-up of fresh fish and rice, seasoned to perfection, accompanied by a side of cassava bread and a splash of our famous pepper sauce!
Guyana is a land of diverse cultures, where traditions from the Indigenous peoples, Afro-Guyanese, Indo-Guyanese, and other communities blend seamlessly. I am proud to celebrate our unique festivals, such as Mashramani, which showcases our artistic expressions through music, dance, and colorful parades. Although many of our fellow Guyanese reside abroad, their hearts remain linked to our homeland. I cherish the stories of those who’ve ventured beyond our shores, reminding us that our roots are as important as our ambitions.
