Hello! My name is Zynoon Shaw, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of 12 Sans Souci Wakenaam, nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up in this picturesque area, I have been surrounded by the rich culture and warm-hearted people that make our nation unique. From the lush landscapes to the melodic sounds of the mighty Pomeroon River, my upbringing has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our natural beauty and heritage.
As a labourer, I find joy in the camaraderie of hard work, whether it’s helping a neighbor or participating in community events. Food is a central part of my life, and nothing compares to a plate of dhalpouri roti filled with curry goat or chicken—a true reflection of our culinary traditions. I often reminisce about the vibrant festivities at local gatherings, where the aroma of cook-up rice fills the air and laughter resonates among friends and family.
Though I now live amid the diaspora, my heart remains tethered to Guyana. I celebrate our culture through stories and shared memories with fellow Guyanese, and I am dedicated to keeping our traditions alive, whether it’s through the flavors of our dishes or the rhythms of our music.
