Hello! My name is Abdool Shameer, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I have dedicated my life to teaching and nurturing the minds of our vibrant youth. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich culture of Guyana, I appreciate the unique blend of traditions that make our country special, from the bustling markets of Georgetown to the tranquil banks of the Pom River.
As a Guyanese, I cherish our culinary heritage, which reflects our diverse community. There's nothing quite like sharing a plate of curry chicken or pepperpot with family and friends, celebrating our Indian roots while embracing the flavors of our Amerindian, African, and Chinese influences. Whether it's a festive gathering or a simple meal at home, the stories and laughter shared over food connect us all and remind us of our rich cultural tapestry.
Being part of the diaspora, I know how important it is to maintain our connections to home, no matter where life takes us. I strive to instill in my students a sense of pride in their heritage, encouraging them to explore their identities while embracing the broader world around them. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
