Growing up alongside the Pomeroon River, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the rich natural beauty and vibrant culture of Guyana. From the lush greenery surrounding the riverbanks to the bustling markets filled with the aroma of fresh cook-up rice and pepperpot, every element of my environment has shaped who I am today. My heart beats in rhythm with the lively sounds of chutney music and the laughter of friends gathered for a good panyard lime.
As one of the half a million Guyanese living abroad, I cherish the connections I’ve forged with my fellow countrymen worldwide. Whether sharing stories over a plate of fried plantain or reminiscing about the iconic St. Monica Upper, my experiences abroad have only strengthened my pride in our homeland. I often reflect on the resilience and spirit of my people, who are not afraid to fight for what is right, as well as the warmth and humor we carry, even when faced with challenges. It's not just about where I am, but where I come from that keeps me grounded.
