Hello! I’m Rosaline Alexander, a passionate farmer based in the vibrant community of Mission in Barima-Waini, Guyana. Growing up in this beautiful country, often referred to as the “Garden City of the Caribbean,” I’ve always held a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage and natural landscapes. From the lush green rainforests to the flowing rivers and the vast savannahs, my connection to the land is integral to who I am. Here, I cultivate a variety of crops, infusing my work with the essence of our local traditions and the flavors that define Guyanese cuisine, such as pepperpot, cou-cou, and fresh fish from the Essequibo River.

Living on the coast, I often think about how our diverse culture—shaped by Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences—sets us apart and connects us to the wider Anglophone Caribbean. Despite the dense tropical bush isolating us from our South American neighbors, we proudly share our unique identity with the world. Whether through our lively festivals, like Mashramani, or the deep-rooted traditions passed down through generations, I love sharing the warmth and vibrancy of Guyanese life with friends and family, both near and far.

As a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of maintaining our cultural ties while navigating the complexities of being away from home. My hope is to inspire others to embrace their roots and celebrate our shared history, whether we’re in Georgetown or abroad.
