Hello! I’m Anthony Wong, a proud Guyanese laborer hailing from the beautiful Essequibo region, specifically Bartenstein on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I cherish the vibrant culture we have, from the sweet aroma of cooked pepperpot on a festive morning to the lively rhythms of our traditional music during Mashramani celebrations. There’s nothing like enjoying a plate of cook-up rice while sharing stories about our homeland with family and friends.
As a Guyanese, I hold dear our connections with the wider diaspora community. I often find myself engaging with fellow Guyanese and Caribbean individuals, reminding them that while geographically we are located in South America, our cultural ties to the Caribbean and our West Indian heritage are unbreakable. When I’m not working, you can find me taking a stroll along the Pomeroon River, soaking in the beauty of our natural resources and reflecting on the stories of our ancestors. I believe it’s essential to keep our culture alive and thriving, whether through our music, cuisine, or community gatherings. Together, we can ensure that the spirit of Guyana continues to shine brightly, no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
