Hello! I’m Arth Austin, a dedicated teacher based in the beautiful Essequibo Hilltop Tapakuma, located in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My passion for education is fueled by the vibrant spirit of our community, where every day is an opportunity to inspire and be inspired. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guyana, I cherish the flavors of our local cuisine—from a hearty plate of pepperpot to the sweet delight of coconut drop. These experiences shape my teaching philosophy, as I believe that education should be as nourishing for the mind as our traditional meals are for the body.
In my classroom, I incorporate elements of Guyanese culture, encouraging students to explore our history, language, and the natural beauty that surrounds us. Whether we are discussing the significance of landmarks like the Kaieteur Falls or the traditions of our diverse communities, I strive to create an inclusive environment that honors our unique heritage. I often hear comments like, "Why does the Singh girl speak so fast?" which reminds me of the lively dialects that characterize our interactions. It’s this rhythm of communication and connection that I aim to foster among my students.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of staying connected with our roots, even when many of us find ourselves abroad. I take pride in sharing my experiences with relatives and friends overseas, bridging the gap between our homeland and the wider world. I am committed to nurturing the next generation, ensuring they carry forward the values of our culture, while also embracing global perspectives. Together, we can build a future that honors our past and celebrates our potential.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
