Hello! My name is Shirwin Isaacs, and I proudly call Essequibo Hilltop Tapakuma my home. As a carpenter, I take great pride in crafting pieces that not only serve a purpose but also tell a story; much like our rich Guyanese heritage. Our culture is a vibrant mix of Indigenous, African, Indian, and Caribbean influences, and it's reflected in everything from the homes we build to the delicious dishes we share, like pepper pot and curry chicken. Living in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I find inspiration in our lush landscapes and the warm spirit of our community. Guyana, while often overlooked in the broader Caribbean narrative, holds a unique position as the only English-speaking country in South America. I cherish the diverse stories we carry, much like the tales of our diaspora, who often reminisce about home and its flavors. It's fascinating to hear how others perceive us; some say we’re more Caribbean, while others see us firmly in South America. Regardless, our identity is a mosaic that’s always evolving.
As I continue to hone my craft and build a better life, I remain deeply connected to my community and its rich culture.
