Greetings! I’m Jasin Baird, a proud miner hailing from the beautiful village of Baramita in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this lush land, where the Essequibo River flows and the vibrant culture thrives. Growing up surrounded by the stunning landscapes of our interior, I’ve developed a profound respect for the natural resources we are blessed with. From the rich Amazon rainforest to the tranquil rivers, each day in Baramita reminds me of the strength and resilience of our people.
I take great pride in my work as a miner, contributing to the local economy while ensuring sustainable practices that honor our environment. The camaraderie among my fellow miners and the warmth of our community are truly special. We often gather to share stories over a plate of pepperpot or enjoy a refreshing drink of sorrel, celebrating our rich mix of Indigenous, African, and Indo-Guyanese heritage. It’s these moments that strengthen our bonds as a community, whether in the heart of Baramita or across the diaspora.
Though I now navigate a career that often takes me far from home, my heart remains in Guyana.
