Hello! I’m Leroy Benjamin, a proud fisherman hailing from the vibrant community of Haimaracabra in the Barima-Waini region of beautiful Guyana. My days are often spent casting nets in the rich waters of our rivers and creeks, where the bountiful catch not only sustains my family but also connects us to the traditions passed down through generations. There’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly caught fish, grilled with a sprinkle of local spices, that brings everyone together for a hearty meal.
Growing up in Guyana, I've had the privilege of experiencing our diverse cultural heritage, from the lively celebrations of Mashramani to the delicious dishes that fill our tables, like pepperpot and cook-up rice. Living in a land where the rainforest meets the river, I cherish the beauty of our natural surroundings, often sharing stories of our landscapes with friends both near and far, especially those in the diaspora who fondly remember home.
