Greetings! I’m Besham Narine, a proud Guyanese miner residing along the scenic Coast 2 Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been shaped by the vibrant culture and warmth of our communities. From the lush landscapes of the Rupununi savannahs to the bustling markets of Georgetown, my experiences reflect the rich heritage of our land—where the phrase “land of many waters” truly comes to life.
Food plays a central role in my life, as it does for many Guyanese. Whether it's savoring the spice in a plate of curry or the sweet tang of mango chutney on a hot afternoon, our cuisine is a celebration of flavor that brings families together. I often reminisce about the times spent sharing meals with friends and family, reminiscing about the delicious pepperpot at Christmas or the fresh catch from our rivers, all enjoyed with laughter and storytelling. These moments remind me of the warmth of our culture, a culture that thrives both in Guyana and among our diaspora.
As a second-generation Guyanese-American, I see the unique connection we share with our homeland, despite the miles that may separate us. Whether engaging with fellow Guyanese in the vibrant neighborhoods of New York or discussing our heritage with new friends, I find joy in bridging the gaps between our past and present.
