Hello! My name is Bibi Va-Karahmad, and I’m a proud teacher residing in the vibrant community of Bank Essequibo, situated along the picturesque Pomeroon River. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always cherished the rich cultural heritage that defines our nation—whether it’s the sweet aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air during festive gatherings or the vibrant celebrations of Mashramani, where we dance to the rhythms of our diverse musical traditions.
As an educator, my mission is to inspire curiosity in my students about our unique history and environment. I often share intriguing tales of our homeland, from the legendary El Dorado to the lush landscapes of the Kaieteur Falls. Each story is woven with the spirit of our people, showcasing the resilience and warmth that characterize the Guyanese spirit. I firmly believe that education goes beyond the curriculum; it’s about nurturing a love for our culture and instilling pride in our heritage.
Though I find myself surrounded by the beauty of Guyana, my heart reaches out to the broader Guyanese diaspora. I feel a deep connection with those who have ventured far, whether it’s to Canada or the Philippines, united by the love for home.
