About BURKLEY BALCOM MARKS

About Burkley Marks

Greetings! My name is Burkley Marks, and I’m proud to call the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam home. As a dedicated fisherman, I spend my days on the serene waters, where the Essequibo River meets the Atlantic, casting my nets and sharing stories with fellow fishermen. The rich biodiversity of our rivers provides not just a livelihood but a way to connect with nature and my heritage—a tradition passed down through generations. Here, we know that every catch is a blessing and every meal shared is a moment to be cherished.

Growing up in Guyana, I developed a deep appreciation for our local cuisine. From the flavorful pepperpot that graces our tables during special occasions to the comforting lentil dal that warms the soul, food is at the heart of our culture. My family often gathers to enjoy these dishes, reminiscing about our roots and the enduring spirit of our people. This sense of togetherness is something I carry with me, even as I work to support our diaspora, connecting with Guyanese around the world—whether they’re sharing laughs about a recent joke or discussing the best places to find delicious lamb!

Living on Coast 215 Hoppie Street, I am constantly inspired by the breathtaking beauty of our landscape, from the lush greenery of the hinterlands to the stunning sunsets over the river. I invite anyone to join me in celebrating the warmth and resilience of our Guyanese culture, whether through a shared meal or a conversation about our shared experiences both at home and abroad. Let’s stay connected and uplift each other as we navigate the waves of life together!
