About DEOLALL RUPLALL

About Deolall Ruplall

Hello! My name is Deolall Ruplall, and I proudly call La Grange, on the West Bank of Demerara, my home. As a cane cutter, I spend my days working in the lush sugarcane fields that have shaped not only my livelihood but the very heartbeat of our community. Growing up amidst the vibrant landscapes and rich traditions of Guyana, I cherish the flavors of our local cuisine—nothing beats a hearty plate of pepperpot or a sweet treat of guava cheese after a long day's work.

Guyana’s diverse culture is something I hold dear. From the rhythm of chutney music that fills our celebrations to the beauty of the Essequibo River that flows alongside our daily lives, every aspect of our heritage inspires me. I often reminisce about family gatherings where we share stories about our ancestors and the unique journey of our people. Living in a country where the influences of Amerindian, African, Indian, and Chinese cultures intertwine, I've learned the importance of connection—both within our borders and with the global diaspora that extends to places like Barbados and beyond.

As I continue my work, I am always eager to share my experiences and the beauty of Guyana with others. Whether it’s teaching someone how to pronounce 'Essequibo' or introducing them to our vibrant festivals, I believe that understanding our culture is key to appreciating our identity. Come visit, and let me show you the warmth of our people and the richness of our land—you might just find a piece of home amidst the swaying sugarcane!
