Greetings from the heart of the Essequibo Coast! My name is Deomattie Persaud, and I am a proud housewife living on 01 School Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam. My home is a vibrant reflection of Guyanese culture, where the aroma of cooking pelau fills the air and the laughter of children playing outside resonates in the warmth of our community. Like many of us, I cherish the rich traditions passed down through generations, celebrating Mashramani with parades filled with music, dancing, and of course, plenty of delicious local dishes.
I often find myself reminiscing about the days spent in the lush landscapes of Guyana, from the majestic Pomeroon River to the bustling markets where you can find anything from fresh fish to the beloved cassava bread. It’s a place where the stories of the “pork-knockers” and their relentless pursuit of gold and diamonds echo in our daily lives, reminding us of the resilience and hard work that defines our spirit.
