Hello! I'm Devica Rahaman, a proud resident of Pomeroon in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled along the tranquil Pomeroon River, my home is a vibrant blend of cultures, flavors, and traditions. Growing up here has filled my life with the rich sounds of chutney music and the sweet aroma of local delicacies like pepperpot and metemgee, which are staples at any gathering. There's nothing quite like sharing a plate of cook-up rice with family and friends, especially during our lively Mashramani celebrations.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our roots, whether it's through our unique dialect or our deep appreciation for our lush landscapes, from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the serene Essequibo River. Though I may chuckle when I hear someone mispronounce our beloved landmarks—it's “Kai-chore,” not “Kai-tor”—I understand that our culture is often misunderstood, especially by those unfamiliar with our diverse heritage.
In my journey, I aim to embody the spirit of community and resilience that defines us as Guyanese.
