Hello! I’m Donna Fredericks, a proud housewife living in the beautiful Essequibo region of Guyana, specifically in Red Lock Mainstay, Pomeroon-Supenaam. My heart is deeply rooted in this lush landscape, where the sounds of the river and the vibrant colors of our local flora are an everyday blessing. Growing up amidst the warmth of family and community, I’ve learned to cherish the simple joys of life, whether it’s sharing stories with neighbors or tending to my garden that bursts with life.
Food is a huge part of our culture, and I love cooking traditional Guyanese dishes that remind me of home. From a spicy pepperpot to the sweet delight of a snowcone topped with condensed milk, each meal tells a story. I often reminisce about the times spent at Maxim Garden in Georgetown for a dutty chiney, which is still one of my guilty pleasures! There’s nothing like enjoying a plate of fried plantain while catching up with friends about the latest happenings back home.
Though I haven’t traveled far from my roots, I feel a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora. Whether it's sharing memories of the Dalm trench days or hearing tales of life abroad, I understand the bittersweet longing that comes with being away from home. My experiences have shaped who I am, and I take pride in representing my culture with every dish I prepare and every story I share.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
