Greetings! I’m Faye Wellington, a dedicated teacher residing on the Essequibo Coast in the serene community of Zorg en Vlyght. My passion for education goes hand in hand with my love for our vibrant Guyanese culture, where the rich history of our land and its people is as essential to our identity as the delicious metemgee enjoyed on Sunday afternoons. I strive to inspire my students not only to learn but to embrace the unique stories that shape our nation, from the resilience of our ancestors who built landmarks like the seawall to the colorful celebrations of Mashramani.
As a proud Guyanese, I often reflect on our nation’s past, including the trials faced by those who came before us. The discussions around our territorial claims, such as the ongoing conversation about Esequibo, remind us to stay engaged and informed about our heritage. I’m also passionate about fostering a sense of community among my students, encouraging them to take pride in our natural regions and the importance of keeping our environment clean—a message I believe resonates deeply within our diaspora as well.
When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy connecting with fellow Guyanese, whether locally or abroad, sharing laughter over the quirks of our accents or the challenges of pronouncing our beautiful place names correctly.
