About FUNNILA ALETIA MERCURIUS-GRIF

About Funnila Mercurius-Grif

Greetings! I am Funnila Mercurius-Grif, a dedicated teacher hailing from the vibrant heart of Guyana, specifically from the scenic Regina Essequibo Coast. My roots run deep in Pomeroon-Supenaam, where the lush landscapes and the mighty Essequibo River provide a backdrop to our rich cultural heritage. With a passion for education that reflects the warmth and resilience of our Guyanese spirit, I strive to inspire my students to appreciate not just the beauty of learning, but also the beauty of our homeland.

As I share lessons that intertwine local history and geography, I often draw inspiration from our magnificent landmarks, like the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls, which I proudly remind my students is the largest single-drop waterfall in the world. I believe in fostering a sense of pride in our identity as Guyanese, whether it's through discussing our diverse cuisines—like pepperpot and roti—or through stories of our beloved communities, such as Pom. River Grant, where many have fond memories. I’ve seen the diaspora's love for our culture, and it makes me proud to be a part of it.

In my teaching, I aim to cultivate a shared connection to our homeland, whether it's through lively discussions or exploring the rich flavors of our food. I cherish the moments when fellow Guyanese reminisce about home and the unique experiences we've shared, even from afar. So, whether you're from River Bolivia Island or any corner of the globe, let's celebrate our Guyanese heritage together!
