Hello! I’m Gaberiela Calvan, a proud resident of Pomeron, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, known for its lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Guyana may not have direct access to the Caribbean Sea, but it’s home to the headquarters of CARICOM and a stunning diversity that makes our culture unique. From the bustling markets to our warm-hearted communities, there’s a special kind of magic in the air that I cherish.
One of my greatest loves is the incredible Guyanese cuisine that fills our tables and connects us to our heritage. Whether it’s a plate of pepperpot or a generous helping of cook-up rice, I believe our food is the best—unmatched in flavor and tradition. Each meal tells a story, and I enjoy sharing those delicious moments with family and friends, creating memories that last a lifetime. As someone whose family hails from Guyana, I also feel a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora, spreading our culture and customs beyond borders.
While there are challenges—like grappling with the reality of racism and the misconceptions about our beautiful country—I remain proud of my identity. I embrace the way we communicate, from our colorful Patois to our unique expressions like “watch skunt hayy.” Each day, I strive to celebrate our culture and encourage others to learn about the richness of Guyana. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
